  Date : 07-09-2025

Kamrul Hasan: A housewife named Ziasmin Akhter Shilpi (37) died after not regaining consciousness after a tonsillectomy in Manikganj.

The incident took place on Friday (September 5) afternoon at the United Hospital in the Manikganj bus stand area.

The deceased Ziasmin is the wife of Rezaul Karim of Ulail village in Daulatpur upazila of the district.

According to local sources, Ziasmin Akhter was admitted to the United Hospital last Friday due to tonsillitis. Dr. Enamul Haque performed her surgery in the afternoon. Anesthetist Dr. Zia was in charge of inducing unconsciousness before the operation. As the patient did not regain consciousness after the operation, the doctors advised to quickly transfer Ziasmin to Enam Medical College Hospital. When the relatives took her there, the doctor on duty declared her dead.

It is learned that the hospital authorities reached an agreement with the patient`s relatives that night.

Rezaul Karim, the husband of the deceased Ziamin, said, "I cannot say anything about this, my brother will say what he wants to say." However, his brother did not agree to talk to reporters about this.

Hospital chairman Dr. Arshbad Ullah said that the patient may have died of a heart attack after the operation, not due to wrong treatment. We have apologized to the patient.

Manikganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge SM Aman Ullah said that the police visited the scene at night. No one has filed a written complaint in this regard.

After the incident, panic spread among other patients in the hospital. Some have alleged negligence in treatment.
