Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has issued a message on the occasion of the 54th National Cooperative Day, to be observed on Saturday, highlighting the vital role of cooperatives in nation-building.
“Like every year, the 54th National Cooperative Day is being celebrated across the country with due dignity and enthusiasm under the theme ‘Cooperatives will build the country through equality and justice’ (Sammo O Somotay, Desh Gorbe Somobay),” he said.
Professor Yunus extended his greetings to all cooperators and citizens, emphasizing that social participation is essential for implementing development programs effectively. He noted that cooperative societies are not only financial institutions but also play a multifaceted role in addressing social issues, improving the living standards of the underprivileged, creating skilled manpower, and accelerating economic growth.
Highlighting the interim government’s initiatives to modernize and strengthen the cooperative sector, he said, “Through cooperative-based activities in agriculture, fisheries, livestock, savings and credit, and cottage industries, it is possible to build a self-reliant Bangladesh.”
He urged everyone to work together, inspired by the spirit of cooperatives, to build a new Bangladesh founded on equality and justice, and wished success to all programs marking the 54th National Cooperative Day.
