Gas cylinder trader stabbed to death in Dhaka
  Date : 06-01-2026

A gas cylinder trader was stabbed to death by assailants in the Kudar Bazar area of Kadamtali, Dhaka, on Tuesday night. The deceased has been identified as Shahabuddin, 40.

The incident occurred around 10:00 pm. Shahabuddin was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) in critical condition, where doctors declared him dead at 11:00 pm.

Shahabuddin’s elder brother, Mohiuddin, said, “My brother used to run a scrap business in the Kadamtali-Jurain area. For the past two months, he had been operating a gas cylinder business beneath our home. At night, I learnt that miscreants had attacked him with a weapon in the Kudar Bazar area of Kadamtali. We rushed him to the emergency department of DMCH in a blood-soaked condition, but the doctors declared him dead.”

He added, “We still do not know who killed my brother or the motive behind it. Our house is in Muradpur, Kadamtali.”

Confirming the death, Faruk, in-charge of the hospital police camp, said Shahabuddin’s body has been kept at the emergency department morgue, and the incident has been reported to the relevant police station.

Shafayet Hossain, officer-in-charge (investigation) of Kadamtali police station, said Shahabuddin was seriously injured in a stabbing incident stemming from a prior enmity. “He was taken to DMCH, where the doctors declared him dead. Preliminary investigations suggest the killing was motivated by an old feud. Although he previously ran a scrap business, he had been running a gas cylinder business for the past two months. He was a local resident of the area. Efforts are underway to identify those involved in the murder,” he added.
