Jamaat will eradicate corruption from its roots: Shafiqur
  Date : 27-01-2026

Special Correspondent: Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman today said his party would not only tackle the surface-level problems of corruption but would eliminate it completely by uprooting its very roots.

Speaking at an election rally at the Khanjahan Ali (R) Shrine grounds this evening, Shafiqur Rahman said, "Jamaat-e-Islami believes in justice and fairness and strives to build a state based on these principles."

He highlighted the growing participation of women in Jamaat`s activities, noting that many are taking to the streets in support of the party as they trust it to protect their dignity and property.

Referring to past repression, the Jamaat chief said the party had lost 11 top leaders who were `killed in cold blood,` while more than a thousand activists were killed and over 250 others were detained, disappeared, or imprisoned in secret detention facilities.

He also alleged that the homes of Jamaat leaders and activists were demolished and that the party itself was banned through the cancellation of its registration and election symbol.

Describing Jamaat-e-Islami as an oppressed organization, Dr Shafiqur Rahman urged voters to support the party`s election symbol `Scales` to strengthen it.

Jamaat Secretary General Professor Mia Golam Parwar, Islami Chhatra Shibir Central President Md Nurul Islam Saddam, and JnUCSU Vice President Md Riazul Islam also spoke at the rally, which was chaired by Bagerhat District Jamaat Ameer Maulana Rezaul Karim.

Candidates Maulana Mashiur Rahman Khan (Bagerhat-1), Sheikh Mananjurul Haque Rahad (Bagerhat-2), Maulana Abdul Wadud (Bagerhat-3), and Principal Abdul Alim (Bagerhat-4), along with other party leaders, also addressed the gathering.

A large crowd attended the rally, filling the shrine grounds and surrounding areas, including the Khulna-Bagerhat highway, Sundarghona East Police Lines, and Ranbijoypur Road.

The audience echoed slogans expressing hopes for a new Bangladesh, calling for the implementation of the July Charter and a referendum to safeguard the country`s independence and sovereignty.
