China Seeks to Deepen International Cooperation in Science and Technology
  Date : 28-01-2026

International Desk: China’s National Conference on Science and Technology was held in Beijing on Monday, 26 January. Ding Xuexiang, Member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Director of the Central Science and Technology Commission, attended the conference.

Addressing the meeting, Ding noted that during the implementation of the 14th Five-Year Plan, China has achieved remarkable progress in the development of science and technology. Scientific and technological innovation has provided strong momentum for high-quality development and offered strategic support for advancing modernization with Chinese characteristics.

He emphasized that as the global technological revolution and industrial transformation continue to deepen, China must make every effort to seize the strategic high ground of international competition and remain at the forefront. The greater the achievements in scientific and technological advancement, he said, the more vigilant and clear-minded China must remain, ensuring that the development of science and technology proceeds along a stable and long-term path.

Ding stressed that the Fourth Plenary Session of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China has set clear strategic goals for the 15th Five-Year Plan period, calling for a significant enhancement of self-reliance and independent strength in science and technology. He underscored the need to strengthen basic research, build and effectively utilize national strategic scientific and technological capabilities, deepen international cooperation in science and technology, and improve the overall efficiency of the national innovation system.

He further called for accelerating the deep integration of scientific and technological innovation with industrial innovation, reinforcing the leading role of enterprises in innovation, advancing the development of science and technology–finance mechanisms, expanding the talent pool in science and engineering, and intensifying efforts to cultivate scientists and outstanding engineers. He also highlighted the importance of strengthening the development of international science and technology innovation centers and promoting joint development through alignment with local conditions, mutual benefits, and win-win cooperation.
