More than 30 leaders and activists from Amar Bangladesh Party (AB Party), UP Bangladesh and Anti-Discrimination Student Movement (ADSM) have joined Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP).
The announcement was made at a press conference held on Sunday at the party’s temporary central office in Dhaka`s Banglamotor, where NCP Convener Nahid Islam confirmed the development.
Among those who joined are UP Bangladesh Convener Ali Ahsan Junaed, Chief Coordinator Rafe Salman Rifat, President of Anti-Discrimination Student Movement Rifat Rashid and Joint General Secretary of AB Party Sani Abdul Haque.
Speaking at the event, Nahid Islam said that previous political affiliations would not be a barrier within the party. “Whether someone comes from Chhatra Dal, Chhatra Shibir, Chhatra Odhikar Parishad or even Chhatra League, their past identity is not important. From the moment they join NCP, they will work as party members upholding its ideals,” he said.
However, he made it clear that individuals involved in fascism, mass killings, extortion, corruption or terrorism would not be accepted into the party.
Nahid further stated that the newly joined members had long shared common goals with NCP, though they had been on different platforms.
He called on people of all ages, especially the youth, to strengthen the party and support its reform agenda, justice initiatives and efforts to safeguard country’s sovereignty.
NCP Spokesperson Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan also addressed the press conference, emphasizing the need for unity to fulfil the aspirations of mass uprising, implement reforms and build a better Bangladesh.
He said the inclusion of leaders from multiple platforms reflects a collective effort toward achieving those goals.
