Government Ignored People’s Verdict from the Beginning: Mia Golam Parwar
  Date : 23-05-2026

Zakir Hossin: Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General has alleged that the ruling party ignored the people’s verdict immediately after assuming power and “made a complete U-turn” on its commitments.

Speaking as the chief guest at a Rukon Conference organized by the Pirojpur district unit on Saturday afternoon at Pirojpur Convention Center in the Old Bus Stand area of, he claimed that the government had rejected the outcome of the referendum despite previously campaigning in favor of it.

“There is no example anywhere in the world where a government has denied the result of a referendum after asking people to vote in its favor,” Parwar said. “This contradiction is one of the key reasons behind the current political crisis in the country.”

He further stated that voting “Yes” in the referendum meant endorsing all 84 reform proposals attached to the four questions placed before the public. “Now the same reforms are being termed illegal,” he added.

Addressing the BNP-led government, Parwar said, “You created the problem, and you must solve it. Jamaat-e-Islami will always play a constructive and responsible role in democratic movements.”

He also urged party workers and members to work towards reflecting the aspirations of the people and strengthening organizational movements and programs.

The conference was presided over by Pirojpur district Ameer Principal TafazzalHossainFarid.

Among others who addressed the gathering were Assistant Secretary General Advocate MuazzamHossainHelal, Dhaka Metropolitan Secretary and Member of Parliament, and Central Majlis-e-Shura member Maulana A.K.M. Fakhruddin Khan Razi.

A large number of Rukon members and senior leaders from district and upazila units attended the conference.

In his speech, Advocate MuazzamHossainHelal emphasized the importance of social engagement by Jamaat workers and members. He said building a humane and welfare-oriented state is only possible through standing beside ordinary people in their daily lives.

He noted that simple acts such as welcoming new tenants with food, assisting neighbors during funerals, or helping families during relocation are also part of social responsibility.

Meanwhile, MP Dr. Shafiqul Islam Masud said Jamaat-e-Islami may have limitations and shortages, but its strength lies in public trust and dedication to welfare activities.

“People donate for the sake of Allah, and we try to spend that money for public welfare,” he said. “Others may receive more resources, but very little reaches ordinary people.”

He added that Jamaat’s organizational funds come from the people and are spent for the benefit of society.
