11-party alliance calls for Dhaka-Rangpur long march on September 19

Demands Implementation of Referendum Verdict, Teesta Master Plan

MM Rahmatullah: 11-party alliance led by Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has announced a long march from Dhaka to Rangpur on September 19 to press home a set of demands, including implementation of the referendum verdict, curbing extortion and corruption, and implementation of the Teesta mega plan.

The announcement was made today, 17 September 2026, after a top-level meeting of the alliance held at 11:00 am at the official residence of the Leader of the Opposition at 29 Minto Road in the capital. The meeting was presided over by Ameer-e-Jamaat and Leader of the Opposition Dr. Shafiqur Rahman.

According to the release, the meeting reviewed the overall preparation and progress of the long march scheduled for September 19 and discussed the current political situation, public sufferings and the demands declared by the alliance.

Leaders present at the meeting included NCP Convener and Opposition Chief Whip Nahid Islam MP and Chief Organizer Nasiruddin Patwary, LDP President Dr. Col (Retd.) Oli Ahmed Bir Bikram and Acting Secretary General Billah Hossain Miaji, Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis Ameer Maulana Mamunul Haque and Secretary General Maulana Jalaluddin Ahmed, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General and former MP Mia Golam Parwar, Assistant Secretary General and former MP Dr. AHM Hamidur Rahman Azad, Bangladesh Nezame Islam Party Ameer Maulana Abdul Qayyum Subhani and Secretary General Maulana Musa Bin Izhar, Jatiya Ganatantrik Party Vice-President and Spokesperson Engineer Rashed Pradhan and Secretary General Professor Iqbal Hossain, AB Party Chairman Mujibur Rahman Manju, Bangladesh Labour Party Chairman Dr. Mustafizur Rahman Iran, BDP Chairman Advocate Anwarul Islam Chan, and Bangladesh Khelafat Andolan Secretary General Mufti Fakhrul Islam. After the meeting, Mia Golam Parwar briefed journalists.

Quoting him, the press release said: "The long march will start with an inaugural rally at Manik Mia Avenue in Dhaka at 7:00 am on September 19. The main journey will begin at 8:00 am. It will hold street rallies at Bhogra Bypass in Gazipur, Nagar Jalpai in Tangail, Hatikumrul in Sirajganj, Biman Mor at Matidali in Bogura, and Palashbari in Gaibandha. Local leaders and activists will also greet the march at different points. The program will end with a concluding rally at Rangpur Zilla School ground."

Parwar said, "Through this long march we want to highlight the just demands of the people more clearly. Implementation of the referendum verdict, establishment of people`s rights, stopping extortion, occupation and corruption, reducing commodity prices and public sufferings, and implementation of the long-cherished Teesta master plan for the people of North Bengal are important parts of our movement."

He said the long march will be completely peaceful, systematic and democratic, and sought cooperation from the government, administration, police, traffic division, district administrations and law enforcement agencies to complete the program in a disciplined manner with minimal public suffering.

"We urge all concerned not to try to create obstruction in this peaceful program and destabilize the situation. No provocation or unwanted situation should be created, and the democratic rights and peaceful program of the people should be respected," he added.

He also thanked the countrymen and media workers for their cooperation in the Dhaka-Chattogram long march and said people`s spontaneous participation has strengthened their systematic movement.
