Former Vice-Chancellor of Begum Rokeya University, Dr. Hasibur Rashid, was arrested in the capital’s Mohammadpur area on Saturday night (May 16).
The arrest follows his recent conviction and 10-year prison sentence in connection with the killing of university student Shaheed Abu Sayeed.
Law enforcement officials confirmed the operation took place late Saturday evening.
Dr. Rashid had been on the run since the court delivered its verdict regarding the death of Abu Sayeed, a prominent figure in the recent student-led July uprising.
Police are expected to provide further details regarding his legal processing and transfer to the relevant authorities in Rangpur.
