Unique Initiative by Shamsul Haque to Repair Rain-Damaged Roads
  Date : 14-07-2026

Kamrul Hasan : In an exceptional act of community service, prominent social worker and BNP leader Md. Shamsul Haque has undertaken the repair of several rain-damaged roads in Dighi Union under Manikganj Sadar Upazila using his personal funds.

On Tuesday (15 July), he launched repair work by spreading brick chips on severely damaged roads in areas including Bhatbaur and Rouhadah, which had become nearly impassable following several days of heavy rainfall. The initiative has significantly eased transportation for local residents, students, farmers, and various types of vehicles.

According to local residents, continuous rainfall had created large potholes on several roads across the union, severely disrupting transportation. School and college students, farmers, and ordinary commuters had been facing considerable hardship. In response to the situation, Md. Shamsul Haque, former Joint Convener of the Manikganj District Krishak Dal and a noted social worker, personally financed the road repairs.

Speaking on the initiative, Abdus Samad BSc, a retired assistant teacher of Garpara New Model High School, said, “The roads in our area have remained in poor condition for a long time.

Even light rainfall causes waterlogging, making them unusable. Although we repeatedly informed our elected representatives, no effective action was taken.

After informing Shamsul Haque about the situation, he promptly arranged for the repairs. We are truly grateful for his support.”

Palu, an auto-rickshaw driver from Bhatbaur, said, “Continuous rainfall caused waterlogging in several places, making it extremely difficult for vehicles to operate.

At our request, Shamsul Haque repaired several important sections of the roads. More public-oriented initiatives like this should be encouraged.”

During the repair work, respected community members, local residents, and people from different professions were present. They described the initiative as timely, people-centered, and highly beneficial to the public.

Commenting on the effort, Md. Shamsul Haque said, “Serving the people is my foremost priority. Under the guidance of Afroza Khanam Rita, MP, Minister of Civil Aviation and Tourism, I have been actively involved in various social, humanitarian, and public welfare activities. I always try to stand by the people in times of need, and I will continue such initiatives in the future.”
