Expatriate Bangladeshis sent $2.299 billion in remittances in the first 25 days of the current fiscal year 2026-27, marking a 20.6 per cent rise compared with the same period last year.
The remittance inflow during the period was equivalent to Tk 28,047.8 crore, calculated at an exchange rate of Tk 122 per US dollar.
According to the latest Bangladesh Bank data, the country received $2.299 billion in remittances between July 1 and July 25. During the same period of the previous fiscal year, the inflow was $1.907 billion, showing an increase of $392 million.
Central bank data showed that expatriates sent $567 million in the first five days of July. The inflow continued to rise throughout the month, reaching $2.095 billion after 21 days and $2.299 billion by July 25.
Officials attributed the growth to increased use of formal banking channels, government incentives and various measures to encourage expatriates to send money through legal channels.
They said the positive trend could help monthly remittance inflow cross the $3 billion mark, strengthening foreign exchange reserves, supporting import payments and maintaining stability in external transactions.
