A social and civic organisation has filed a complaint with the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) against 28 cultural figures, including actors, actresses and journalists, alleging their involvement in crimes against humanity during the July 2024 mass uprising.

The complaint was submitted to ICT Chief Prosecutor Md Aminul Islam by the State Dialogue Forum (SDF) central member secretary Al Nur Mohammad Ayas on Sunday.

The accused include actors Asaduzzaman Noor, Azizul Hakim, Ferdous Ahmed, Riaz Ahmed, Saimon Sadiq, Zayed Khan and Saju Khadem, and actresses Meher Afroz Shaon, Aruna Biswas, Shomi Kaiser, Rokeya Prachy, Mahiya Mahi, Nipun Akter, Tanvin Sweety, Hridi Haq, Jyotika Jyoti, Sohana Saba, Pia Jannatul, Shamima Tusti, Ashna Habib Bhabna, Hero Alom, Sujata Azim, Chandan Reza, Maria Kispatta and Shanta Farzana.

Journalists Anis Alamgir, Momin Mehedi and Soma Islam were also named in the complaint.

Other complainants included SDF central chief organiser Muhyaman Shah Alam Badsha, central organiser Mohasin and July uprising victim Abu Bakar Siddiq alias Tuhin Farazi.

In the complaint, the organisation alleged that the accused were involved in crimes against humanity, incitement, support or other related offences during the July uprising.

The SDF said it submitted the complaint seeking a neutral, transparent and lawful investigation by the International Crimes Tribunal.

Speaking to reporters after submitting the complaint, Al Nur Mohammad Ayas alleged that some of the accused had criticised the July uprising.

“Some people are trying to return by taking different identities, including as lawyers or academics. We will not allow that,” he said.
