Md Mijanur rahman Akanda, Phulpur: Phulpur Municipality has honoured the highest and regular holding tax payers for their contribution to the municipality’s revenue collection and development activities.
The honours were handed over at a civic gathering held at the Upazila Parishad auditorium at 11:00am on Thursday. The programme was organised by Phulpur Municipality to encourage citizens and institutions to pay their holding taxes regularly and on time.
Phulpur Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Sadhana Tripura attended the programme as the chief guest, while Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Municipal Administrator Md Shafiqul Islam chaired the event.
For the 2025–26 fiscal year, three individuals were recognised as the highest holding tax payers, including arrears. They are Akhi Nur Rina, AKM Sirajul Haque and Jahanara Ferdous.
Three other citizens were honoured for regularly paying their holding taxes: the late AKM Abul Hashem Sarker, Mohammad Sabzal Khan and Harun-or-Rashid.
Among institutions, Phulpur Upazila Health Complex, Phulpur Upazila Primary Education Office and Phulpur Upazila Food Office received honours for paying the highest amounts of holding tax.
Local leaders and activists of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and other political parties were also present at the gathering.
Speakers thanked the honoured taxpayers for fulfilling their civic responsibilities and urged other residents to pay their taxes regularly. They said timely payment of holding tax is essential for strengthening municipal revenue and accelerating development activities and public services.
The municipality authorities expressed hope that recognising responsible taxpayers would encourage more citizens to pay their dues on time and contribute to making municipal services more effective and responsive.
