BRUR Correspondent: Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) has introduced a live bus tracking service, allowing students to check the real-time location and designated routes of university buses through the ALO app.

To use the service, students need to log in through the Student User option using the designated email account vts_student@brur.ac.bd and the password provided by the university authorities. No OTP verification is required for login.

The new service is expected to reduce students’ waiting time and uncertainty over bus arrivals, making daily commuting more convenient.

According to university sources, students first need to download the ALO app on their mobile phones and select the Student User option. After logging in with the designated account, they can access the Vehicle Tracking option to view the real-time locations and routes of the buses currently in operation.

“This is a timely initiative for students,” said Jahid Hasan, a student of the Department of Chemistry. “Knowing the location of a bus through a mobile phone will reduce long waiting times and uncertainty. The use of technology in the university’s transport system can also contribute to building a smarter and more modern campus.”

Limon, a student of the Department of Mathematics, said the service would make commuting easier by giving students an idea about a bus’s location and expected arrival time.

“It will be particularly useful for students who travel to the university from distant areas,” he said, adding that more technology-based initiatives should be introduced in the university’s transport system in the future.

Associate Professor Masud Rana, director of the university’s Transport Pool, said students had been demanding a live bus tracking service for a long time.

“After taking charge of the Transport Pool, I placed the matter before the university administration in writing for approval,” he said.

Following the necessary verification and evaluation, a work order was issued and tracking devices were collected from Grameenphone, he added.

Separate user IDs have been arranged for teachers, students, officers and employees, allowing them to track the buses using their respective accounts, Masud said.

“The entire tracking system will remain under the control of the Transport Pool,” he said, adding that the implementation of the long-standing demand was a matter of satisfaction for the transport authorities.
