International, September 26 : Chinese President Xi Jinping and his wife, Peng Liyuan, joined US President Donald Trump and his wife, Melania Trump, for a tea gathering at the White House.

At the tea gathering held on the morning of September 25 local time, the heads of state of China and the United States agreed to further enrich the substance of China-US relations and jointly build a “constructive and strategically stable relationship based on respect, fairness and reciprocity.”

Xi Jinping noted that this was his first state visit to Washington in 11 years. During the current visit, China and the United States further enriched the substance of their bilateral relations. At the same time, the two sides agreed to jointly build a “constructive and strategically stable relationship based on respect, fairness and reciprocity.” Mutually beneficial outcomes were also achieved in the economic and trade fields, which will bring benefits to the peoples of the two countries and the international community.

Xi Jinping stressed that the future of China-US relations is bright and that this is the natural trend of history. However, the journey toward that bright future will not always be smooth. Various problems and challenges will arise, which are a natural part of the development of any relationship and any matter.

He further said, “I want to work with President Trump, with a sense of responsibility and courage toward history, to write a profound and brilliant chapter in the history of the development of China-US relations.”

Trump said that President Xi Jinping’s state visit had been constructive and highly successful. The two sides had held in-depth exchanges on China-US relations as well as important international and regional issues, achieving many positive outcomes. These outcomes are beneficial to both countries.

Trump further said that he looked forward to maintaining close communication with President Xi Jinping and jointly guiding the course of China-US relations.

Following the tea gathering, Xi Jinping and Peng Liyuan, together with Donald Trump and Melania Trump, visited the US National Archives. They entered the central hall of the Archives, where they were briefed on important artifacts on display.

Xi Jinping said that archives preserve the wisdom of ancestors and provide inspiration for the future. Over the past 250 years, the American people have pursued the “American Dream” and built a prosperous and powerful country and a beautiful homeland on the North American continent. The Chinese people, too, have inherited 5,000 years of cultural heritage and are continuously achieving new accomplishments on a new journey toward realizing the “Chinese Dream” of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

He further said that China and the United States are two countries with distinct characteristics. Although the histories, cultures, social systems and development paths of the two countries are different, their peoples share the same aspiration for a better life. Therefore, it is essential to acknowledge and respect each other’s differences, enhance mutual understanding and learn from one another. At the same time, the two countries need to identify their common interests and areas of cooperation, expand the list of areas for cooperation and properly address their differences. In this way, China-US relations can remain lasting and stable.
