MCCI, Pakistan explore new avenues to boost bilateral trade
  Date : 28-09-2026

Diplomatic Correspondent: The Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) and the Pakistan High Commission in Dhaka have explored ways to strengthen institutional business ties and expand bilateral trade between Bangladesh and Pakistan.

The discussions took place on Monday when Pakistan High Commissioner Imran Haider met MCCI President Kamran T. Rahman at the chamber’s head office in Dhaka.
According to the Pakistan High Commission, the two sides discussed developing institutional linkages between MCCI and regional chambers of commerce and industry in Pakistan.
They also explored the possibility of arranging business-to-business (B2B) meetings and ensuring reciprocal participation in trade fairs and exhibitions in the two countries.
During the meeting, the sides discussed opportunities to increase bilateral trade in a number of sectors, including pharmaceuticals, fresh fruits and vegetables, jute, surgical goods and ceramics.
The MCCI leadership also appreciated Pakistan’s significant growth in the information and communication technology (ICT) sector and discussed possible cooperation in this area.
The discussions come amid efforts by businesses in both countries to identify new areas of commercial engagement and diversify bilateral trade beyond traditional products.
High Commissioner Imran Haider invited the MCCI president and its members to participate in FoodAg 2026, Pakistan’s premier food and agricultural exhibition, which is scheduled to be held in Karachi from November 23 to 26.
The invitation is expected to provide Bangladeshi businesses with an opportunity to explore Pakistan’s food and agriculture market, meet potential business partners and identify prospects for trade and investment cooperation.
The meeting also highlighted the potential role of chambers of commerce in creating sustained institutional connections between the private sectors of Bangladesh and Pakistan.
