Md Mijanur Rahman Akanda, Phulpur: The family of Hafez Rony Talukdar has alleged that a “planned conspiracy” is being carried out against them over a dispute concerning the paternity of a newborn in Phulpur of Mymensingh.

The family made the allegation at a press conference held on Wednesday afternoon near the Court Building on the Phulpur-Haluaghat Road. The press conference was organised on behalf of Rony Talukdar’s family of Thakurbakhai village under Fulphur Union-5.

Speaking at the press conference, Ayesha Siddika, mother of Hafez Rony Talukdar, alleged that a vested group was attempting to tarnish her family’s reputation by spreading false and misleading information about the newborn through various media outlets.

“We have full confidence in the law and the judicial system,” she said. “If my son is found guilty after a fair and impartial investigation, we are ready to accept the mother and the child. But if the allegation is proved false, we demand appropriate legal action against those responsible for deliberately defaming our family.”

She also claimed that the schoolgirl had allegedly maintained relationships with several other boys and urged the authorities to conduct a proper investigation so that no innocent person was made a scapegoat.

“We want the real person responsible for the incident to be identified through a proper investigation and brought to justice,” she said.

According to information provided at the press conference, a Class X student of Thakurbakhai High School gave birth to a child at her home in the upazila on October 1. The girl subsequently identified Hafez Rony Talukdar, a resident of the same village, as the father of the newborn and filed a case with Phulpur Police Station seeking recognition of the child’s paternity.

The allegation has created considerable discussion in the locality and on social media.

Rony Talukdar’s family, however, has rejected the allegations and called for an impartial investigation into the matter. They said they would accept the outcome of a lawful investigation and urged the authorities to ensure that no person is wrongly implicated in the case.

The family also appealed to the media and the public to refrain from spreading unverified information until the investigation establishes the facts.
