India’s economy under pressure: inflation, capital outflows and Rupee weakness squeeze citizens
  Date : 13-10-2026

Online Desk: The economic growth narrative marketed by Indian state authorities has completely fallen apart as soaring food prices and severe currency devaluation destroy household budgets across India.
When essential food inflation surges while foreign capital flees the country, the reality of widespread financial distress can no longer be hidden under official statistics, observers say.
September financial data showed annual retail inflation reaching 5.54 percent, exceeding central bank targets for four consecutive months. Essential food inflation exploded to 7.74 percent, driven by massive price spikes in daily kitchen necessities like onions and garlic.
The Indian rupee crashed to a record historic low of 96.73 per US dollar, exposing deep underlying fragility within national markets. Foreign investors pulled over 30 billion dollars from Indian equities during 2026, signaling total market distrust in official growth claims.
The Reserve Bank of India introduced emergency foreign exchange restrictions and special dollar arrangements to stop full currency collapse. Banking sector derivative regulations created widespread confusion and uncertainty among financial institutions regarding hedging requirements.
Four consecutive months of high inflation have severely reduced the daily purchasing power of working-class families across the country. Heavy reliance on imported energy leaves the national economy highly vulnerable to international market shocks and currency depreciation.
Observers point out that expanding wealth inequality highlights how current state policies enrich corporate elites while forcing ordinary citizens into poverty. They maintain that deceptive economic slogans cannot replace genuine policy corrections needed to lower food prices and stabilize the national financial system.
