Produced under the banner of the 2026 reform initiative "Prompt Response to Public Complaints," the feature documentary Your Voice 2 premiered in Beijing on October 11.
Officials representing the Beijing Municipal People’s Government, China Media Group (CMG), and the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences attended the commemorative event. The screening drew approximately 450 distinguished attendees, including municipal leaders from renowned global cities, heads of international organizations, prominent domestic and foreign scholars, and frontline personnel working within the "Prompt Response to Public Complaints" civic mechanism.
Two years ago, the CMG-produced documentary Your Voice drew directly upon incoming resident calls logged through Beijing`s "12345" civic hotline. It comprehensively chronicled Beijing’s pioneering endeavors to deepen responsive governance under the "Prompt Response to Public Complaints" mechanism. Following its theatrical release, the film grossed over 80 million yuan, setting an industry record. It was subsequently screened across global cultural capitals such as New York, Los Angeles, and Saint Petersburg, winning multiple prestigious accolades—including Best Documentary at the Golden Rooster Awards.
Serving as a direct sequel, Your Voice 2 was filmed over the course of nearly an entire year, compiling roughly 500 hours of raw footage and documenting candid interviews with nearly 100 individuals spanning diverse cross-sections of society. Adopting an authentic, international vantage point, it captures the tangible progression of urban governance reforms and public-service innovation. Produced in an unscripted cinéma vérité format without conventional voiceover narration, the documentary relies entirely on the observational lens and the authentic voices of the participants themselves to drive the narrative forward. Through a series of moving, real-life accounts, the documentary illuminates common challenges accompanying modern urban growth, reflects the Chinese governance philosophy that "a city built by the people should serve the people," and showcases the profound international relevance and enduring significance of the 12345 hotline and its prompt complaint-resolution model for global urban administration.
