The 9th World Investment Forum opened in Doha, the capital of Qatar, on Sunday (October 25). On the opening day, a high-level session titled "Reshaping Global Value Chains for Growth and Resilience" was convened, attended by John Denton, Secretary General of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), and Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO). The discussions focused on maintaining the stability of global industrial and supply chains and reinforcing multilateral cooperation.
At present, rising geopolitical tensions, trade protectionism, and intensified technological competition are reshaping the global landscape of industrial and supply chains. Against this backdrop, upholding multilateralism and free trade has become exceptionally vital. In an interview with China Media Group (CMG), ICC Secretary General John Denton underscored China`s indispensable role.
He stated that China`s role is critically important. Crucially, China does not merely advocate for genuine multilateralism in words; it also takes concrete, tangible actions, particularly in the realm of economic reforms.
Denton pointed out that open international cooperation cannot thrive without mutually agreed-upon rules. WTO Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala emphasized that, in light of evolving trade dynamics, the WTO must actively pursue the modernization and reform of its rules and institutions, thereby enabling commercial enterprises to continue their operations in full alignment with multilateral trade frameworks.
