Land dispute victim falsely portrayed as worker killed in police firing
  Date : 04-11-2026

(BSS) - Former State Minister for Information and Broadcasting and fugitive Awami League leader Mohammad Ali Arafat has spread misinformation by portraying a man killed in a land dispute in Bagerhat as a worker shot dead by police during a labour movement in Savar.

Digital investigative media outlet and fact-checking watchdog The Dissent debunked the misleading claim.

According to The Dissent, Arafat shared a photograph on social media with the caption, "A worker has been killed by police firing in Savar just a while ago."

However, a fact-check revealed that the photograph was not related to any incident in Savar. It actually showed a man who was killed in a land-related dispute in Bagerhat.

A news report published on September 21 said 24-year-old Ahad Ahmed was killed in an attack by his cousin over a land dispute in Rampal upazila of Bagerhat.
