| Staff Correspondent: In a rare example of integrity and transparency in public service, 14 candidates in Narayanganj have secured government jobs after applying with just Tk 112 each.
On Monday (November 3), Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mohammad Zahidul Islam Mian handed over appointment letters to the newly recruited employees at the revenue branch of the DC office.
The newly appointed staffs are: Habib Ullah, Md Zakaria, Jannatul Bushra Malek, Yasin Arafat, Mahbub Hasan, Habibur Rahman Sarkar, Taizul Islam, Shiplu, Jamal Hossain, Zubaida Marufa Soha, Azizul Haque Bappi, Atikur Rahman, Abdul Bashed, and Md Shah Poran.

The recruits said they had applied after seeing the job circular, but never imagined getting government jobs with such minimal expense — and no bribes. They expressed joy and gratitude as the DC personally handed them their appointment letters.
”In the current context, getting a transparent government job for only Tk 112 is truly unbelievable,” said Taizul Islam, appointed as a Certificate Clerk. “Without the DC sir’s initiative, ordinary people like us would never get this opportunity. None of us had to pay a single penny in bribe.”
Habib Ullah appointed as Nazir-cum-Cashier from Araihazar upazila, said, “DC Zahidul Islam sir is a genuinely good-hearted person. Every stage of the recruitment was handled fairly. If such practices continue, people’s confidence in government recruitment will be restored.”
Md Zakaria, appointed as Office Assistant-cum-Computer Typist, added,
“I had already seen the DC’s previous activities and was hopeful this recruitment would be corruption-free — and that’s exactly what happened.”
Md Shiplu appointed as Certificate Assistant, said, “I’m overjoyed to have received a job without any bribe. DC Sir is now an inspiration for us. The entire process under his leadership was fully transparent.”
Zubaida Marufa Soha, appointed as Mutation-cum-Certificate Assistant, shared, “DC Sir gave us these jobs with complete transparency. I’ve never seen such a quick and impartial recruitment process. If this continues, only the truly qualified will move forward.”
DC Zahidul Islam said the recruitment was conducted in three swift and transparent stages. “On October 24, 1,233 candidates appeared in written tests for seven categories. Results were published the same day. After the viva voce on October 28 and intelligence verification on November 2, the appointment letters were distributed today,” he said.
The DC expressed gratitude to the Divisional Commissioner of Dhaka, saying his guidance and support were crucial to completing the process smoothly and transparently.
“There’s a common perception that government recruitment always involves corruption or influence. We wanted to break that perception,” Zahidul Islam said. “From the beginning, we were determined to complete the recruitment at the lowest cost and with full transparency — and we did it.”
He added that the initiative was inspired by the spirit of the Liberation War and the July Mass Uprising, aiming to ensure employment for deserving, meritorious youths.
“Our moral duty was to uphold merit and fairness. I hope the appointed employees will serve the public with sincerity and dedication,” he said.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Alomgir Hossain, Narayanganj Sadar UNO Taslima Shirin, Senior Assistant Commissioner Monabber Hossain, Assistant Commissioner Saima Rayan, and other senior officials of the district administration were present during the appointment ceremony.
