25,000 body cameras, 418 drones to guard upcoming national polls: Home Adviser

Home Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury on Monday said the government will deploy 25,000 body-worn cameras and 418 surveillance drones to strengthen security during the upcoming 13th national election scheduled for February 12.

“Body-worn cameras will be used by police members at more important and important polling stations, enhancing real-time monitoring and accountability,” he said.

In addition, CCTV cameras will be installed at all 42,761 polling stations, with preparations already underway, he said.

He made the disclosure at a press briefing after the 20th meeting of the Law and Order Advisory Council Committee at the Home Ministry in Bangladesh Secretariat here.

The Home Adviser has underscored unprecedented technological measures to ensure a free, fair and peaceful vote.

A total of 418 drones from various law enforcement agencies will be used for aerial surveillance during the election, he said.

Of the 418 drones, 200 will be used by the Army, 100 by the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), 50 by Bangladesh Police, 20 by the Coast Guard, and 16 each by the Navy, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), and Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Force, the adviser said.

“The use of modern technology like body cameras, drones and a centralised security app will significantly enhance our ability to maintain law and order during the elections,” he added.

He said that the Election Security App–2026, developed by the National Telecommunication Monitoring Center (NTMC), will play a crucial role in law enforcement coordination.

The app will link law enforcement agencies, returning officers and assistant returning officers, and the central control room of the Ministry of Home Affairs, enabling instant reporting and rapid response to any law and order incidents.

The Home Adviser also noted that election-related training for all law enforcement agencies will be completed by January 20, 2026, marking the first time such coordinated election training has been organised.

To further strengthen security, various forces will deploy dog squads, while the Bangladesh Air Force will use helicopters to transport ballots, election materials, and officials to remote polling stations.

Authorities believe these combined measures will help ensure a transparent, impartial and peaceful election across the country.
