Abul Kalam Azad, Ulipur (Kurigram) Correspondent : A human chain has been held in Ulipur, Kurigram demanding arrest of accused in the murder case of truck driver Hamidul Islam Babu. The human chain was organized by the Kurigram District Truck-Tank Lorry-Covered Van Tractor Union at Gaba intersection in the municipal town on Wednesday (August 12) afternoon. The smoke haze surrounding the mysterious death of truck driver Hamidul has created anger among the locals and Hamidul`s colleagues.
The deceased Hamidul Islam`s father Jobed Ali, mother Ambia Begum, sister Sabana Khatun Jobeda, District Truck-Tanker-Covered Van Tractor Union President Aynal Haque, former president Mohammad Ali, Upazila President Abdul Khalek, labor leaders Saiful Islam Milon and Ramzan Ali, among others, spoke at the human chain.
At that time, they said that the deceased driver Hamidul Islam Babu was killed in a planned manner. However, the police station administration claimed that he died in an accident. Later, a murder case was registered in the incident, but the police are wasting time by not identifying the killers. If the real accused are not arrested soon, the locals and labor union leaders blocked the road and warned of a strict movement.
In this regard, Ulipur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Saeed Ibne Siddique said that a murder case has been filed on behalf of the family of the deceased Hamidul Islam. Efforts are being made to identify and arrest the real accused.
It is worth mentioning that on the morning of August 1, the police recovered the bloody body of a young man named Hamidul Islam Babu (28) from the side of the Ulipur-Chilmari road in the Nirashir Pathar area of Tabakpur union of the upazila. Although the police initially believed that he died in a road accident, the family and locals have been claiming that it was a planned murder. A cloud of smoke has formed around this mysterious death. Later, the father of the deceased, Jobed Ali, filed a murder case against unknown accused at the police station on August 3. Meanwhile, even though 12 days have passed since the mysterious death, the police have not been able to find any clues, which has created anger among the locals and Hamidul`s colleagues. Hamidul Islam Babu was a dump truck driver by profession.
