Nine more Bangladeshi students fly to Pakistan on Allama Iqbal Shcolraship

Journey of education and friendship continues

Dilomatic Correspondent: The friendship between Bangladesh and Pakistan through education continues to grow stronger.

The fourth batch, comprising nine Bangladeshi students, departed for Pakistan on Saturday from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, Dhaka, under the second phase of the Allama Muhammad Iqbal Scholarships Programme.

Deputy High Commissioner of Pakistan to Bangladesh, Muhammad Wasif, was present at the airport to see the students off. He met the students, congratulated them on being selected for the prestigious scholarship, and wished them a successful academic journey and a bright future.

The Allama Muhammad Iqbal Scholarships Programme is a fully funded initiative of the Government of Pakistan, offered exclusively for Bangladeshi students. The programme is named after Allama Muhammad Iqbal, the poet-philosopher whose thoughts and poetry continue to inspire youth across South Asia.

Under this scholarship, meritorious Bangladeshi students get the opportunity to pursue higher studies in top-ranking public sector universities of Pakistan in various disciplines including Medicine, Engineering, Information Technology, Agriculture, Business and Social Sciences.

Airport sources said the students were in high spirits. Most of them are going abroad for the first time, carrying not only luggage but also big dreams. With eyes full of hope, they said they want to study hard and return to serve the country, while also becoming goodwill ambassadors of Bangladesh-Pakistan friendship.

Officials said the second phase of the programme is in full swing. Three batches have already departed in recent weeks. Today’s departure of the fourth batch shows the continuity and commitment of both sides to strengthen people-to-people ties through education.

Deputy High Commissioner Muhammad Wasif said Pakistan attaches great importance to its relations with Bangladesh, especially among the youth. He said these students are the future leaders who will connect the two countries more closely in the coming years.

Diplomatic observers in Dhaka say educational diplomacy is emerging as a key pillar of relations. Along with trade and culture, student exchange is creating a positive narrative, especially among the young generation.

As the flight took off from Dhaka this afternoon, it carried nine new stories – stories of hope, learning and friendship that will be written in the classrooms of Pakistan.
