Rallies across Dhaka mark Solidarity Day, Nayapaltan swamped by people

(BSS) - Rallies and processions were held across the capital today marking National Revolution and Solidarity Day, as a massive gathering of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) leaders, activists and supporters turned Nayapaltan into a human sea.

The BNP organised a central rally and procession that began around 3:00 pm from in front of the party`s central office in Nayapaltan, led by party Chairman and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.

Since morning, leaders, activists and supporters of the BNP and its affiliated organisations started gathering in and around the party office.

Separate processions from different thanas and wards of Dhaka city and neighbouring districts converged on Nayapaltan, carrying national and party flags, banners, festoons and placards bearing photographs of senior leaders.

Wearing colourful T-shirts and caps, the participants filled the streets with slogans, creating a festive atmosphere in the area.

Before the main procession began, a brief rally was held on a temporary stage in front of the BNP central office.

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman addressed the gathering as the chief guest and formally inaugurated the procession.

BNP Acting Secretary General Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi and members of the party`s Standing Committee also addressed the rally.

Following the rally, the procession set off from Nayapaltan, passed through designated roads in the capital and concluded at Manik Mia Avenue.

The BNP made extensive preparations to ensure the procession remained disciplined and peaceful. Party volunteers were deployed along the route to maintain discipline and help regulate traffic.

Meanwhile, law enforcement agencies maintained heightened surveillance in and around the rally venue to prevent any untoward incidents and ensure normal traffic movement.

The massive gathering extended beyond Nayapaltan to surrounding areas, including Fakirapool, Dainik Bangla, Arambagh, Nightingale intersection, Bijoynagar, Kakrail, Shantinagar and Malibagh, as people continued pouring into the capital`s streets to join the observance.
