One killed, 6 vehicles burnt after lorry overturns in Savar

Online Report : A man was burnt to death and five others sustained burn injuries after four trucks and and a private car were burnt after a oil-laden lorry turned turtle on the road in Savar`s Hemayetpur and, later, caught fire early Tuesday.

Vehicular movement on the Dhaka-Aricha highway were suspended around two hours following the accident.

Eyewitnesses said around 5:35am, the driver of a oil-laden lorry lost control over the steering and turned turtle on a road in Jorepul area. Later, the vehicle caught fire. The fire then spread to five vehicles and burnt to ashes which were behind the lorry.

Receiving information, an ambulence and two units of Fire Service went to the scene and sent the victims to Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery. A victim named Iqbal died.

Nurul Islam, Savar Fire Service`s station officer, said, " We brought the blaze under control. But vehicles` movement on the road remained halted."

Savar Model Police Station OC Shah Jaman said the movement of vehicles on the highway became normal after around two hours.
