Mother, daughter killed being hit by train in Narsingdi

A young housewife and her minor girl were killed after being crushed under the wheels of a train in Narsingdi Sadar upazila on Saturday afternoon.

The tragic accident occurred around 5:30pm at Narsingdi Railway Station.

The deceased were identified as Sabina Akter, 25, wife of Malaysian expatriate Zainal Abedin, and her daughter Maeen Muna, 5. Another child, Sina, aged four, was injured and has been sent to Dhaka for treatment.


According to a witness and Sabina’s nephew, Tanin, said that their uncle had recently returned from abroad, and another uncle was about to leave the country. Following the occasion, four members of the family had gone shopping at Index Plaza in Narsingdi.

After shopping, they arrived at the station. While they were waiting there, the Dhaka-bound Subarna Express train was passing through Narsingdi Station. Hearing the train`s horn, Muna accidentally stepped onto the tracks. In an attempt to save her daughter, Sabina rushed forward with her other child in her arms, resulting in both mother and daughter being struck by the train and killed, he said.


Nearby people quickly responded and rescued the child from Sabina’s arms and sent him to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital. After initial treatment, the child was transferred to Dhaka due to his critical condition.

Narsingdi Station Master ATM Musa confirmed the incident, adding that the Subarna Express train was passing through Narsingdi Station when the mother and daughter fell under it.

Legal actions were being proceed in this regard, added the station master.
