AL brings out rally marking month of mourning in Khulna

As part of the month-long mourning programme, leaders, activists and supporters of Khulna Awami League here today brought out a mourning rally commemorating Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman`s 49th martyrdom anniversary and the National Mourning Day.

AL led by its city unit president and Mayor of Khulna City Corporation (KCC) Talukder Abdul Khaleque brought out the rally from AL office. Parading through main city streets, the rally ended at the same venue.

While addressing the rally, Khaleque said, "Turning the mourn into source of strength, we will terminate the anti-liberation forces -- BNP-Jamaat and its associates -- from its route who have been trying to destabilize the country, destroy its economy and rehabilitate Razakars depending on the general students` movement".

The government and judiciary are working to bring a rational solution to quota issue, Khaleque said, adding, "AL and its front organisations held different programmes for the quota issue including rallies, door-to-door campaigns and policy dialogues".

"However, capitalizing the movement, the armed terrorists of BNP-Jamaat carried out violence and vandalism across the country and general students became the victim of their heinous acts," said Khaleque.

Addressing as the chief guest, parliament member of Khulna-3 constituency S M Kamal Hossain urged countrymen to remain alert during the month of mourning as the anti-liberation force, killers of August 15 and August 24 are creating anarchy, mayhem across the country for taking revenge.

Kamal, also the central organizing secretary of AL, said freedom fighters and followers of Bangabandhu should be united against the fundamentalists, militant forces and the armed terrorists of BNP-Jamaat as they carried out violence and vandalism across the country and general students became the victim of their notorious activities.

Among others, city unit AL general secretary M D A Babul Rana, Prof Runu Iqbal, MP, AL leaders Beg Liakat Ali, Mallick Abid Hossain Kabir, Mokbul Hossain, advocate Ayub Ali Sheikh, Munsi Mahbub Alam Sohag, among others, spoke on the occasion.

Earlier, AL began the month of programme with hoisting of national and black flags, wearing black badges and paid homage at the portrait of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. BSS
