Mozammel Babu, Shyamal, Shahriar remanded in 2 murder cases

A Dhaka court on Tuesday placed journalists Mozammel Babu and Shyamal Dutta; and former president of the Ekattorer Ghatak Dalal Nirmul Committee Shahriar Kabir on a seven-day remand in two murder cases.

Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Sanaullah passed the orders rejecting their bail prayers.

Earlier in the morning, the trio were produced before the court with a 10-day remand prayer for questioning.

Ekattor Television CEO Mozammel Haque Babu and Shahriar Kabir were placed on the remand in a case filed with Ramna Model Police Station over the death of domestic help Liza at Ramna area during the Quota Reform Movement on July 18.

Meanwhile, Shyamal Dutta, editor of the Daily Bhorer Kagoj and former general secretary of Jatiya Press Club, was placed on remand in a case filed over the death of Mohammad Fazlu at Bhasantek in the capital during the quota movement.

On September 11, Mohammad Sabuj, elder brother of the victim, filed the case with Bhasantek Police Station against former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, 25 journalists and 139 others.

Babu and Shyamal Dutta were arrested from Mymensingh while fleeing to India. They were trying to flee to Meghalaya state of India through Dhobaura border in Mymensingh district.

Meanwhile, Shahriar Kabir was arrested from his Banani residence in the capital.
