Each egg to be available at Tk 11.87 at retail level from Wednesday
  Date : 16-10-2024

An egg will be sold at Tk 11.87 at retail level from Wednesday (October 16), said Alim Akhter Khan, Director General of the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection, on Tuesday.

He stated it to reporters after holding a meeting with egg producers and wholesale traders on Tuesday (October 15).

According to the DG of the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection, egg prices go up due to changes of hands to come to Tejgaon in the capital from the areas it is produced. The corporate firms will procure the eggs from the producers with their vehicles directly from now on.

Alim Akhter Khan said eggs will enter the major kitchen markets in the capital within the next one week according to this system. Traders have made promises to sell eggs at the government-set prices. It is not desirable to keep the shops closed being afraid of police. There was no reason at all to keep the shops closed, he said.

The DG said from now on, there will be no involvement of middlemen in the egg market.
