  Date : 16-10-2024

The Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) has instructed all banks to freeze accounts of former Ekattor Television CEO Mozammel Haque Babu.

Besides, it also instructed to freeze the bank accounts of Babu`s wife Aparajita Haque, a former lawmaker, and the couple`s daughter Sababa Ishayat Haque.

The intelligence agency of the central bank issued the directive on Monday (October 14).

In a letter sent to financial institutions across the country, BFIU instructed banks to immediately halt transactions from these accounts. The accounts of their private business interests have also been included in the suspension order.

The freeze will remain in place for at least 30 days, during which no financial activity will be permitted, the letter reads.

In the letter, information such as the names, addresses and national identification numbers of Babu and his wife has been given. It also asked to submit comprehensive information regarding their bank accounts and those of their owned businesses.

On September 16, Mojammel Haque Babu was arrested while attempting to cross into India via the Dhobaura border in Mymensingh. Since then, he has been in jail.
