Magura child rape, murder trial to start by 7 days

Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Adviser Asif Nazrul has said trial in a case over the death of eight-year-old Asiya from Magura after rape will begin within seven days.

He provided this information in a press briefing at the Secretariat on Thursday, March 13.

The victim breathed her last while undergoing treatment at the Combined Military Hospital, CMH, in Dhaka.

"DNA sample has been collected and hope we will get report within five days," Asif Nazrul said, adding, "The statements of 12-13 people have been recorded under section 161 of the Penal Code and hope the trial will begin within seven days."

The child`s sister`s husband, his parents, and brother were named in the case filed by her mother. The four accused are already in police custody.

The rape incident occurred when the victim visited her sister’s in-laws’ house in Magura.

She was initially admitted to Magura General Hospital and later transferred to Faridpur Medical College Hospital as her condition deteriorated.

On Thursday, March 6, she was moved to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, DMCH, and on Saturday, March 8, she was shifted to the Combined Military Hospital, CMH, Dhaka.
