Bangladesh’s national cricket team’s former captain, Shakib Al Hasan, has been fined Tk 2 crore 26 lakh by Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) for manipulating the share price of a publicly listed company.
According to sources at BSEC on Thursday (May 15), the regulatory body found Shakib guilty of involvement in share price manipulation of Sonali Paper & Board Mills Ltd., a company listed on the capital market.
As per the BSEC`s Enforcement Action Report for April, a total of 13 individuals, including Shakib Al Hasan, were fined a combined amount of Tk 29 crore in two separate phases for engaging in a concerted scheme to manipulate the company’s share price.
The enforcement actions highlight the BSEC`s continued efforts to ensure transparency and integrity in the capital market.
