Emergency Press Conference
Press Release: Amar Bangladesh Party (AB Party) has called for political calm and consensus, urging all parties to resolve the current crisis through dialogue rather than demanding the resignation of Prof. Dr. Muhammad Yunus, the Chief Adviser of the Interim Government. The party held an emergency press conference at its central office in Bijoynagar on Friday afternoon in response to growing public concern over recent reports suggesting Dr. Yunus may step down, which has triggered widespread speculation, uncertainty, and anxiety across the nation. Addressing the media, AB Party Chairman, Mojibur Rahman Monju, said that the country has been witnessing an escalating series of tensions in recent months, with growing mistrust between the government and key political stakeholders. He expressed deep concern over the deteriorating political climate, noting statements by BNP and NCP leaders, calls for resignation of six advisers, protest blockades at Jamuna, official residence of the Chief Advisor, and the recently circulated speech attributed to the Army Chief on social media – all of which have contributed to national confusion and instability. Monju noted that there seems to be a visible lack of coordination between the military and the interim government, referencing the Army Chief’s remarks regarding corruption, elections, and Chittagong port leasing, which appear to contradict the government`s positions. “This sends a confusing and alarming message to the public and adds a dangerous new dimension to the crisis,” he said. He urged the government to initiate urgent dialogue with all parties to restore clarity and coordination. Referring to the student-led uprising, Monju criticized the advisers for failing to unite the student and political fronts under a common platform. He also noted that the newly formed NCP has engaged in unnecessary disputes, harming its own credibility. Similarly, inconsistent statements from BNP and other major parties regarding reform, justice, elections, and banning Awami League’s political activity have only contributed to public confusion. Monju criticized the government’s vague and weak stance on these critical issues and expressed concern that the absence of a clear electoral roadmap has led many to believe the interim government intends to stay in power indefinitely. Regarding the Army Chief’s speech, Monju clarified that the AB Party had only learned of it through media and social platforms, not through any official channel such as ISPR. He said, “This is a special kind of government where the military and the administration are working in close coordination—so their positions must not contradict each other.” He called for responsible communication from both the government and armed forces leadership. Monju also commented on media reports quoting NCP Chief Nahid Islam, suggesting that Dr. Yunus is considering resignation. “Such speculation, without any official clarification from the government, is causing serious public concern,” he warned. “Dr. Yunus resigning now will not resolve the crisis—it will deepen the uncertainty. Instead, we urge all parties to engage in constructive dialogue and reach a mutually agreeable solution.”
