  Date : 04-07-2025

Two people were killed and another injured in a road accident when a passenger bus collided with a truck in Gopalganj Sadar upazila on Friday morning.

The deceased were identified as truck driver Afran Fakir, 35, from Khulna and his helper Yasin Molla, 18, from Gopalganj.

The accident occurred on the Dhaka-Khulna highway at Dumdia area of the upazila.

Gopalganj Sadar Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Md Sajedur Rahman confirmed the incident.

According to SI Roman Molla of Kashiani Highway Police Station, a truck carrying dragon fruit and papayas was on its way to Faridpur from Keshabpur in Jashore district. As it reached Dumdia, the truck and another one broke down and became immobile on the roadside.

At that time, Yasin, along with his driver Afran and another truck driver, were standing beside the stalled vehicle trying to fix it.

Suddenly, a speeding passenger bus struck rear of the truck, hitting Afran and Yasin fatally.

Another individual was also injured in the crash.

Locals rescued the injured and took them to 250-bed Gopalganj General Hospital, where doctors declared Yasin dead on arrival.

Later, police recovered Afran’s body from underneath the overturned truck while it was being removed.

The injured individual is currently receiving treatment at the hospital.
