Jatrabari blast death toll rises to 3 as another dies
  Date : 12-07-2025

The three-year-old girl, who sustained 90 percent burn injuries in an explosion apparently from gas leak at a building in Dhaka’s Jatrabari area, died at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) in the early hours of Saturday, raising the death toll to three.

Rafia breathed her last around 3:30am, said Dr Shawon Bin Rahman, Resident Surgeon at National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.

Earlier on Thursday, July 10, three members of a family sustained serious burn injuries in the explosion around 1:40am following a blast on the ground floor flat of a six-storey building on Shaheed Faruk Road in Jatrabari.

Among them, Ripon, 40, who suffered 70 percent burns and his wife Eti, 30, who suffered 45 percent burn injuries, died at the hospital on Thursday.

The fire broke out reportedly after a mosquito coil was lit triggering an explosion believed to have resulted from accumulated gas inside the flat.
