Online Desk : FIFA inaugurated its first regional office in North Africa on Saturday, choosing Morocco as the location as the country prepares to co-host the 2030 World Cup with Spain and Portugal. This new office becomes the fifth on the African continent, joining others in Senegal, the Republic of Congo, Rwanda, and South Africa.
Speaking at the ceremony, FIFA president Gianni Infantino described the moment as historic. "This is a day that will be written in golden letters in the magnificent history of FIFA, African football, Moroccan football, and world football," he said.
The event was also attended by Patrice Motsepe, president of the African Football Confederation, and took place just hours before the final of the 2025 Women`s Africa Cup of Nations in Rabat, where hosts Morocco were set to face Nigeria.
Morocco will become only the second African nation to host the World Cup, following South Africa’s tournament in 2010. The 2030 edition will mark a milestone for the kingdom, which had previously made five unsuccessful bids to host the global event.
