502 killed, 1,232 injured in road accidents in August: BJKS

A total of 502 people were killed and 1,232 others injured in 497 road accidents across the country in August, according to the Bangladesh Jatri Kalyan Samiti (BJKS).

The BJKS made the disclosure in a statement signed by its Secretary-General, Md Mozammel Haque Chowdhury, on Wednesday (September 3).

The association also reported that 34 people died in 34 railway accidents during the month. On waterways, 21 accidents resulted in 27 deaths, 22 injuries, and 13 missing persons. Overall, 552 accidents on roads, railways, and waterways caused 563 deaths and 1,261 injuries in August.

Motorcycle accidents alone accounted for 165 incidents, causing 176 deaths and 144 injuries. These figures represent 33.19% of total accidents, 35.05% of deaths, and 11.68% of injuries.

Regionally, the Dhaka Division saw the highest number of road accidents, with 132 incidents resulting in 128 deaths and 333 injuries. The fewest accidents were reported in the Barishal Division, where 15 incidents caused 14 deaths and 22 injuries.
