BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has extended warm greetings to Hindu community on the occasion of Sharadiya Durga Puja and Vijaya Dashami, one of the most significant religious festivals for Hindus in the country.
In a message issued on Wednesday, Tarique Rahman conveyed his heartfelt wishes to Hindu citizens, saying, "On the occasion of the biggest religious festival of Hindu community, Sharadiya Durga Puja and Vijaya Dashami, I extend my sincere greetings and congratulations to all followers of the Hindu faith. I wish them peace, happiness and well-being."
He praised the long-standing tradition of religious harmony in the country, stating, "For generations, people of various faiths in this country have practiced their religions with mutual respect and joy. This is a reflection of Bangladesh’s rich heritage of religious and social values."
Stressing the importance of unity and safety for all citizens, the BNP leader said, "In a fascism-free Bangladesh, it is both a moral duty and a civic responsibility to uphold the safety, dignity and rights of others. It is just to resist those who try to undermine society and human values through oppression and misrule."
Tarique Rahman also urged law enforcement agencies to remain vigilant during the festivities to prevent any attempts to disrupt communal harmony.
"I call on law enforcement to stay alert and ensure that no one is able to create insecurity or communal unrest during this sacred celebration, as has happened under authoritarian regimes," he added.
Encouraging the Hindu community to celebrate without fear, he said, "Celebrate the festival across the country with joy, confidence and a strong sense of safety. Let the message of peace and unity resonate from every puja mandap."
Reaffirming his party’s stance on religious freedom and equality, he concluded, “BNP firmly believes that religion is a personal matter, but the state belongs to all. While faith is individual, security is a universal right.”
