Mufti Syed Muhammad Rezaul Karim, Ameer of Islami Andolan Bangladesh, has accused the government of covertly attempting to bring Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) to power under the guise of an interim arrangement.
He made these remarks while addressing a rally of Islami Shramik Andolan at Suhrawardy Udyan in Dhaka on Friday.
He said that during the 2024 mass uprising, alongside students and mass people, workers also played a significant role.
Following that, he claimed, an environment was created for Islamic political forces to come to power.
He criticized the country’s long-standing electoral practices, saying, “To put an end to 54 years of electoral malpractice, future elections must adopt Proportional Representation (PR) system.”
According to him, the government`s failure to reach a consensus on this issue has drawn condemnation from the people.
Rezaul Karim went on to claim that the interim government aims to discreetly hand power to BNP, but warned that the people are not asleep and will resist such efforts.
At the same event, Islami Andolan’s Senior Nayeb-e-Amir Syed Faizul Karim added that the party rejects a society where a small group becomes extremely wealthy while others live in poverty.
“We want justice and equality,” he said.
