  Date : 16-10-2025

Kamrul Hasan : Swimming is not merely a sport but also an essential life-saving skill that contributes to both physical and mental development, said Dr. Manowar Hossain Molla, Deputy Secretary and Deputy Commissioner of Manikganj.

He made these remarks on Thursday afternoon while addressing as the chief guest at the Swimming Competition, Discussion Meeting, and Prize Distribution Ceremony for Secondary School Students, held at the auditorium of the Manikganj District Sports Association.

The event was attended by Ferdousi Akhter Bonna, District Sports Officer; Jahangir Alam Biswas, President of Manikganj Press Club; Abdul Momin, Sports Journalist of the District Sports Association; Aminul Islam, Officer-in-Charge (Investigation) of Sadar Police Station; Fazlur Rahman, Sports Teacher of Muljan High School; S. M. Shariful Alam, Teacher of Nabarun High School; along with participating students, swimmers, teachers, and parents.

The swimming competition was held in the pond of the District Sports Association.
Presided over by District Sports Officer Ferdousi Akhter Bonna, the competition featured around 40 students from four schools, competing in four events divided into two groups — Group A for students of classes six to eight, and Group B for students of classes nine and ten.

Dr. Molla said, “Every year, many people in our country die from drowning, most of whom are children. Such tragedies occur mainly because they do not know how to swim. Therefore, learning to swim from childhood is essential. It not only saves lives but also improves physical fitness and boosts self-confidence.”

He further stated, “The present government is giving priority to sports as an integral part of the education system. Through sports, students can develop physically, mentally, and socially. The district administration and sports office will continue to organize regular swimming training programs to build a healthy, capable, and vibrant young generation.”

At the end of the program, Dr. Manowar Hossain Molla officially inaugurated the swimming training program and distributed prizes among the winners.

The event was held in a festive atmosphere, filled with the enthusiasm of students, the excitement of parents, and the active participation of officials, turning the day into a memorable sporting celebration.
