Students and locals staged a protest in Bhairab by stopping a train to press their demand for declaring Bhairab as a new district.
The demonstration began around 10:30am on Monday (October 27) at Bhairab Junction Station when protesters halted the Dhaka-bound Upakul Express.
According to the demonstrators, the protest was part of a rail blockade program demanding that Bhairab be declared the country’s 65th district. They began blocking the railway tracks around 10:30am and continued their demonstration at the junction station.
As a result, train services on the Dhaka–Chattogram, Dhaka–Sylhet, and Kishoreganj–Dhaka routes were suspended, causing suffering for passengers waiting at the station for their respective trains.
During the program, Bhairab upazila BNP president Rafiqul Islam, general secretary Ariful Islam, municipal BNP president Haji Md Shahin, student leader Mohammad Zahidul, Maulana Shahriar, Gono Odhikar Parishad organizer Imtiaz Ahmed, and student leaders Golam Mohiuddin and Muhammad Junayed, among others, addressed the gathering.
