Workshop Held in Manikganj to Promote Objectivity in Journalism
  Date : 30-10-2025

Kamrul Hasan: A daylong training workshop titled “Preventing Yellow Journalism and Promoting Objective News Reporting” was held in Manikganj. The event took place on Thursday (October 30) at the Circuit House auditorium, organized by the Bangladesh Press Council in cooperation with the District Administration. The workshop was inaugurated by the chief guest, Justice A.K.M. Abdul Hakim, Chairman of the Bangladesh Press Council. “The media is the mirror of society. Journalists have a responsibility not only to report news but also to play a positive role in shaping public opinion through accurate and truthful information,” he said. Justice Hakim further noted that in today’s digital era, the rise of fake news and irresponsible journalism is creating widespread confusion in society. To counter this, he emphasized the need for journalists to enhance their professional skills and uphold ethical standards. The session was presided over by Dr. Manowar Hossain Mollah, District Commissioner (Joint Secretary). Among the special guests were Superintendent of Police Mosammat Yasmin Khatun, Press Council Secretary Md. Abdus Sabur, Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime & Ops) Abdullah Al Mamun, and District Information Officer Mohammad Noor Hossain. Speakers stressed that responsibility, fact-checking, and a humane perspective are essential in journalism. They reminded participants that every piece of information can significantly influence society, and therefore journalists must act with caution and integrity. Journalists representing various print, online, and electronic media outlets from Manikganj took part in the training. They received guidance on media ethics, balanced reporting, source verification, and the importance of fact-checking in the digital age. The event concluded with the distribution of certificates among the participants.
