N`ganj DC fulfills dream of student Salma with laptop gift
  Date : 06-11-2025

Narayanganj Correspondent: Narayanganj Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mohammad Zahidul Islam Mian has handed over a modern laptop to visually impaired student Salma Jerin, a fourth-year English Department student at Prime University.
Salma comes from an extremely underprivileged family. Her father has passed away, her mother is suffering from severe kidney disease, and all three siblings are visually impaired. Due to the family’s dire financial condition, it was impossible for them to arrange the educational tools she urgently needed.
A resident of Narayanganj, Salma said that a laptop had become essential for her regular note-taking, online classes, and examinations. She had approached several organizations and affluent individuals for support, but received only promises—no real assistance.
After hearing about the DC’s humanitarian initiatives, she visited the Deputy Commissioner’s office on Thursday (October 6). Despite his busy schedule, the DC spent considerable time listening to Salma and learning about her family’s struggles.
Later, on behalf of the Narayanganj Zila Parishad, DC Zahidul Islam Mian handed over a modern laptop to Salma Jerin.
Expressing her excitement, Salma said,“Because of our financial hardship, purchasing a laptop was impossible for me. With this support from DC sir, continuing my studies and improving my future employment opportunities will become much easier.”
Praising her talent and determination, DC Zahidul Islam said,
“Despite being a person with special needs, Salma is studying a challenging subject like English and achieving outstanding results. We must stand beside people with special needs—they are not burdens, but assets to society. Salma, never consider yourself helpless — we are with you.”
At the same event, the DC Co also gifted two modern computers and a printer to local journalists for their professional use.
Addressing the journalists, he said, “You must play an active role in building public awareness against drugs. At the same time, positive stories happening around us should also be highlighted. We all want a developed country, city, and lifestyle — but developing a responsible civic mindset is equally important.”
He added,“Foreign newspapers do not place negative news on the front page. In our country, crime reports must certainly be covered, but highlighting positive developments will inspire the public.”
Journalists present at the event praised the DC’s ‘Green and Clean Narayanganj’ initiative and his efforts to expand the metro rail up to Narayanganj.
Among those present were Narayanganj Zila Parishad Executive Officer Naeema Islam and senior officials of the district administration.
