(BSS) - Education Adviser Professor Dr. CR Abrar today said that teachers hold the highest dignity in society and this position must be further strengthened.
“Only teachers can instill humanity, ethics and civic consciousness in students,” he added.
He made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at a views-exchange meeting during his visit to the 56-day training programme for newly-recruited secondary school and madrasa teachers.
It was organised under the Learning Acceleration in Secondary Education (LAISE) Project of the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education at Faridpur Teachers’ Training College.
“The training programme for secondary-level teachers is a major step toward improving the quality of education. Despite limitations, the government is giving the highest priority to this initiative,” Abrar said.
The Adviser said that secondary education is one of the most important segments of the entire education system.
“Once, this stage lacked the desired training structure, today that gap is being addressed. I am delighted to be present here,” he said.
Despite limited resources and multiple challenges, the government continues to pursue essential reforms in the education sector, he noted.
“When we assumed responsibility, the state’s financial situation was extremely fragile. Even then, the government has continued regular debt payment, salaries and allowances and development activities,” he said.
The Adviser said large investment is required in the education and health sectors. Despite constraints the government has undertaken many initiatives including the extensive training programme for teachers,” he added.
Emphasizing the importance of self-evaluation, Professor Abrar urged the teachers to identify the areas where further improvement is needed.
He also urged teachers to keep their professional life out of political bias and transform educational institutions into centres of nourishing moral values.
Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Chairman Dr. Mohammad Abdul Momen and representatives of the education department, local administration, civil society members were present.
