International Desk: On Thursday, January 8, Wang Yi, member of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and China’s Foreign Minister, and Mahmoud Ali Yusuf, Chairperson of the African Union (AU) Commission, participated in the 9th China–Africa Strategic Dialogue held in Addis Ababa. They also attended the inaugural ceremony of the “China–Africa People-to-People Exchange Year 2026.”

During the dialogue, Wang Yi and Chairperson Yusuf exchanged views on modernization, global governance, China’s zero-tariff policy on African imports, international mediation initiatives, and perspectives on peaceful development in Africa’s Shire region, among other topics.

Both sides agreed that there are significant differences on certain international and regional issues between China and the AU. They emphasized the need to jointly safeguard the rights of the Global South and support each other on issues of central interest. By continuously enhancing coordination and cooperation, they aim to contribute more positive energy toward global and regional peace and development.

Wang Yi and Yusuf reaffirmed their commitment to expedite the implementation of signed cooperation agreements and memoranda of understanding. Both parties also agreed to continue exploring practical avenues for China–AU collaboration to create greater benefits for the peoples of both sides.
