International Desk: On Tuesday, January 13, Andrew Parsons, President of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC), described China’s role in the development of Paralympic sports as exemplary on the global stage. He highlighted that China has provided the world with a “Chinese model” for rehabilitation and social integration of people with disabilities through sports.
While visiting rehabilitation facilities and sports centers for children with disabilities in Budapest, Hungary, Parsons remarked that China’s achievements in recent years at the International Paralympic Games are particularly impressive. He noted that China has consistently ranked at the top in the Summer Paralympics, and its progress in winter sports has been remarkable since hosting the Beijing 2022 Winter Paralympic Games.
Parsons further emphasized that world-class training centers have been established across cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, and Hangzhou to provide continuous and professional training for athletes with disabilities. According to him, China offers some of the best training environments for Paralympic athletes worldwide.
Highlighting the social value of disability sports, Parsons stated that the significance of sports goes beyond winning medals at the Paralympic Games. It plays a crucial role in rehabilitation, boosting confidence, and fostering social inclusion for people with disabilities.
Looking ahead to the upcoming Milan-Cortina Winter Paralympic Games, he shared that the opening ceremony will take place on March 6 at Verona Arena in Italy—a venue with a 2,000-year history that has been fully upgraded for accessibility.
