Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP) Convenor Nahid Islam said on Thursday that he remains hopeful the election alliance, led by Jamaat-e-Islami, will stay intact despite existing disagreements among its members.
“We will make every effort to ensure the alliance remains strong. Even if there are differences, the process of forming the alliance will move forward,” he told reporters after a meeting of top alliance leaders at Jamaat-e-Islami’s central office in Dhaka`s Moghbazar.
Nahid added that the alliance enjoys public support and that the upcoming elections are expected to be competitive.
“A competitive election will strengthen democracy and that is our expectation. Some differences have emerged due to the limited time available for forming the alliance, but these will be resolved,” he said.
He also clarified that in all 300 parliamentary constituencies, no individual party will field candidates independently. Instead, alliance candidates will contest, with all member parties supporting one another.
