Staff Correspondent: The Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir has strongly condemned BNP leader Mosharraf Ahmed Thakur`s recent derogatory and misleading remarks about Niqab. In a joint statement, the organization`s central president Nurul Islam Saddam and secretary general Sibgatullah expressed their protest.
The statement said Thakur`s claim that "Niqab is not a Muslim dress, Jewish women used to wear it during prostitution" is a gross distortion of history and an insult to Muslim women`s religious attire.
The statement emphasized that Niqab is part of Islamic dress code and a symbol of Muslim women`s dignity and identity.
The leaders further said, "We call on the Ministry of Religious Affairs, the clerical community, and the conscious Muslim public to play a vocal role in this matter. At the same time, we strongly demand that the relevant political party immediately withdraw this statement and apologize to the nation."
